20th January2009 The day was dry and sunny

I set of from home in Great Longstone and walked

through the fields to the top of Longstone moor,

walking westwards towards Wardlow.

I met no one on the moor only these sheep

Near the "Tumulus" above Wardlow I took this
photo eastwards towards Hope Valley and you can
see the chimney in the distance at Hope, about 10 miles
away.




Next I followed the path south eastwards towards
Cherpit Lane and back to Great Longstone
The walk was 4.5 miles and I met no one at all

on the walk.

Rowland has about 12 houses spread along a narrow
road that turns into a track just passed Top Farm

31st December 2008, My last walk this year

The day was cold, frosty with a mist.I started

at the bridge at Thornbridge and walked to

Ashford in the water

The peak trail, cold misty and deserted.

and trees making a great winter display.



The frost on the grass looks great.

The morning of 16th December was dry but misty

in places, So I walked from home in Great Longstone

to Monsal Head then on the path to Fin Cop.

At the sign post I took the path to Ashford.

On the way to Ashford there are several dew pond

some have been cleaned out and repaired.

the ground?

2nd December 2008 ,The first snow of winter

settles on Longstone Edge. On the south facing

edge with the sun shining it feels quite warm

sheltered from the wind. A lovely day for a walk.

November 2008

Sunday 27th July 2008. Great Longstone Cricket

Club held there annual club vs Presidents XI match.

The weather was fine and sunny a contrast to last

year. The Presidents team opened the batting and

with some steady scoring from the older players

reached 124 all out. In reply the Longstone side

made 119 all out with some good performances

from the younger players. The spectators and

supporters were treated to a very good and

interesting game as well as plenty of refreshments.

December 13th 2007 after two nights of low temperature

the ground is frozen hard and a white frost has settled on

the grass. There is little warmth in the sun during the day

but it's great for walking, and with the clear air the views

extend for miles from the high ground of Longstone Edge

Looking back to Great Longstone the frost and cold
air settle on the lower ground.
